CONOR MCGREGOR TWEETS THAT HE HAS RETIRED FROM MMA

When most folks were sleeping, former UFC featherweight and lightweight winner Conor McGregor put out a tweet stating that he’s retired from MMA. Below is the full quotation from his tweet:
“Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the game officially called”Mixed Martial Art” today. I wish all my old colleagues well going in contest. I join my spouses on this venture, currently in retirement. Suitable Pina Coladas on me fellas!”
At first glance, it’s difficult to take McGregor seriously. In the end, this is not the first time. The other time he tweeted something similar after he had been filed by Nate Diaz in a shocker in UFC 196. Just a few months after tweeting that, he had been back in the cage, winning a majority decision over Diaz in UFC 202. So whenever McGregor tweets some thing about retiring from MMA, you need to keep in mind he’s pulled this stunt before.
At second glance, though, there might be something more to this. In the end, McGregor doesn’t desire MMA anymore. It is just a matter of whether he has that burning passion to step into the cage, because as far as finances go, he is set for life. The Floyd Mayweather boxing superfight at 2017 made McGregor up of $100 million, which monetary windfall help put him up for success using Proper 12 whiskey. McGregor doesn’t really truly”need” MMA anymore. However he’s a rival, and he probably does not wish to venture out on a devastating submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 229 in his final bout, not to mention all the shenanigans that went along with it.
This may all be a strategy by McGregor, if anything. It is smart for McGregor to capture the attention of MMA fans and media. He has not even fought in almost a year and yet remains talked about more than any other fighter. He’s clearly a very smart man. The UFC has had talks with McGregor about coming at UFC 239 at a co-main event bout against Nate Diaz, but McGregor has been adamant he wants to fight in the main event, and it seems that is at the crux of his own beef with UFC president Dana White and co.. This could be McGregor posturing and trying to get the UFC to call his bluff, but it remains to be seen.
Without McGregor, the UFC will have to proceed and book UFC 239 without him as a possible fight. The rumors are that the UFC would like to do Daniel Cormier from Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title in the main event, and there are plenty of other options for the card for example Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the UFC welterweight title. As much as the fans need to see McGregor return and fight someone like Diaz, and as far as it seems like the advertising needs McGregor, they truly don’t, along with the UFC’s well-oiled machine will continue to move forwards with or without the Irish superstar.
